FAQ
Questions, answered.
MatchCut FCP transcribes your audio file to subtitle timestamps (SRT), then automatically aligns an ordered folder of clips to those caption timestamps and exports a Final Cut Pro XML sequence you import into Final Cut Pro. No more dragging and trimming dozens of clips by hand.
It takes three steps. Drop your audio file to generate subtitles, load the folder of clips you want aligned, then generate the sequence. MatchCut FCP locks each clip to the exact start and end of its matching caption block.
It exports a Final Cut Pro XML sequence (.fcpxml) that you bring in with File → Import → XML in Final Cut Pro, along with an SRT subtitle file.
MatchCut FCP is built and tested for Apple Silicon (M-series) Macs. Intel support has not been verified.
Name your clips in the order you want them to appear, using zero-padded numbers so they sort predictably, for example 001_clip.mp4, 002_clip.mp4, 003_clip.mp4. MatchCut FCP sorts clips naturally by filename and pairs the first clip with the first caption line, the second with the second, and so on. If the number of clips and caption lines do not match, the app warns you before exporting.
Yes. Transcription runs on-device using whisper.cpp, so your audio is never uploaded to a server. You download the speech model once (they range from about 75 MB to 2.9 GB).

Open the .dmg and drag MatchCut FCP into your Applications folder. Because the beta is not yet notarized, macOS may block the first launch: right-click the app and choose Open, then confirm. You can also run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine '/Applications/MatchCut FCP.app' in Terminal.
