Licensing
Get and activate a license
MatchCut FCP is licensed, not sold. The license controls only exports. It never controls subtitles. This article describes the free use of the app, how to buy early access, and how to activate your license key on your Mac.
What is free
-
Subtitles are always free. You can transcribe as many audio files as you need. The app writes each SRT file to
~/Library/Application Support/MatchCut FCP/SRTs/. -
Your first 2 successful FCPXML exports are free. The app uses a trial export only after the FCPXML file is written.
These events do not use a trial export:
- You cancel the Save dialog box.
- The number of clips and the number of captions do not match.
- A write error occurs.
After you use your trial exports, you cannot use Export FCP XML until you activate a license key.
Buy early access
Early access to MatchCut FCP costs $19.
- Go to /buy to open the checkout page.
- Complete the purchase.
- The store sends you a license key. Store the key in a safe place.
Activate your license key
Enter your key in one of these places in the app:
- Settings → License (⌘,). This place is always available.
- The shortcut button at the bottom of step 3. This button appears after you use all of your trial exports.
Paste the key, and then activate it. The app sends the key to the license service. The app then stores an activation record for this Mac in your Keychain. The record does not contain secret data. You do not need to create an account.
How activation works
- Multiple Macs. You can activate one key on a number of Macs. Your purchase sets this number. The usual number is two. If you reach the device limit, activate the key on the Macs that you want to use. On the other Macs, select Deactivate This Mac to free a slot.
- Periodic check. The app checks the license with the license service one time each day, at most. This check finds refunds and revoked keys.
- Offline use. A network failure does not revoke access immediately. Exports stop only after 14 days without a successful check. One successful check restores all access.
- Deactivation. Deactivation returns the Mac to the free trial. It also frees the activation slot. You can then use the key on another Mac.
Troubleshooting
The app rejects my key. Remove any extra spaces. Paste the key exactly as the store sent it. An invalid key shows an error message. The app does not activate the key.
"Device limit reached." The key is active on the maximum number of Macs. Select Deactivate This Mac on one of the other Macs. Then try again.
Exports are locked after a refund. The app applies a refund or a revocation at the next daily check.
To read the full terms, open the End User License Agreement (EULA). In the app, select Settings → EULA.
